How we wash your rug

Step one
Inspection and colour test
After we collect your rug, we check what it is made of and look for any damage. Then we test a small spot to make sure the colours won’t run when wet.

Step two
Vacuuming
We vacuum the rug to lift the dust and grit that sit on the surface, before any water touches it.

Step three
Soaking and hand-washing
We soak the whole rug in water and wash it by hand with a gentle, wool-safe shampoo that has no bleach. We scrub it section by section.

Step four
Rinsing with a rake
We flush the rug with clean water and push the dirt out with a traditional metal rake. We keep going until the water runs clear.

Step five
Drying
We dry the rug in natural sunlight. In bad weather, we dry it indoors with large air blowers. Either way, it stays with us until it is fully dry.

Step six
Final check and delivery
We check the rug front and back, then bring it back to your door. We can wrap it in breathable material, or store it with us for free until you need it.

Since 2005 we have washed and restored rugs the traditional way: by hand, with gentle products, and dried until fully dry. It takes longer. It also helps a good rug last for generations.
